Red Bull Salzburg officially hire former Manchester United man as new coach

Manchester United continue to see former members of their coaching and performance departments take different paths across European football.
The club’s modern history has included several backroom figures who have gone on to work at major clubs after gaining experience at Old Trafford.
One former United staff member is now beginning another chapter after linking up with a familiar face from his recent coaching career.
Sascha Lense joins RB Salzburg
Sascha Lense has joined RB Salzburg as part of Danny Rohl’s coaching team, taking up the role of co-trainer and performance coach, as the club announced on Instagram.
The move sees Sascha Lense reunite with Rohl after previously following him to Rangers, where the German coach had been part of his staff.
Rohl was recently appointed as RB Salzburg’s new manager, signing a three-year contract with the Austrian Bundesliga side after leaving Rangers.
The two clubs reached an agreement over compensation, allowing Rohl to make the move to Salzburg and begin a new project.
Lense’s arrival continues his long-standing work in football psychology and player development, a field he has specialised in throughout his career.
The German previously worked at Manchester United after being brought to Old Trafford by interim manager Ralf Rangnick in December 2021.
During his time with the Red Devils, Lense served as the club’s sports psychologist, helping the coaching staff improve player mentality and mental conditioning.
His spell at United ended in May 2022 following Rangnick’s departure and Erik ten Hag taking charge as the club moved into a new era.
Despite his relatively short time at Old Trafford, Lense’s role highlighted the increasing importance of psychological preparation at the highest level of football.
Now, he will look to bring that experience to Salzburg as the club begin a fresh phase under Rohl’s leadership.
