Manchester United have spent much of the summer focusing on strengthening key areas of Michael Carrick’s squad.

The club are already moving closer to the arrival of Atalanta midfielder Ederson.

The Red Devils have also continued to monitor defensive talent across Europe.

CentreDevils recently revealed that United had made contact for Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall as part of their ongoing recruitment plans.

Now, a player previously linked with a move to Old Trafford has officially secured a transfer elsewhere.

Saudi Pro League giants Al-Ahli confirmed on Friday that they had completed the signing of a highly-rated young defender on a five-year contract as they continue preparations for the 2026/27 campaign.

Official move confirmed

In a statement published on the club’s official website, Al-Ahli announced the arrival of Abubacarr Sedi Kinteh from Norwegian side Tromso IL.

The Gambian defender has earned a growing reputation in Scandinavian football thanks to his athleticism, composure in possession and ability to operate across multiple positions in defence.

Standing out as a modern centre-back, Kinteh is known for his pace, strong one-on-one defending and confidence when building attacks from the back.

His versatility has also allowed him to feature in wider defensive roles when required.

Al-Ahli described the transfer as an important addition to their defensive department.

They highlighted both his potential and the impressive performances in Norway.

The move brings an end to speculation surrounding the defender’s future.

Earlier this year, Manchester United were reported to have monitored Sedi Kinteh.

Scouts were keeping track of his development during his breakthrough campaign.

More recently, it had appeared that the 19-year-old was set to play in the German Bundesliga after reports suggested he had agreed a move to FC Koln.

Instead, Al-Ahli have won the race for his signature and handed him a long-term contract.

The Saudi side expressed confidence that Kinteh can help fulfil the ambitions of the club and its supporters as they look to compete for further domestic honours and continental success following another strong season.
