The Italy international is capable of playing at left-back, right-back and in more advanced wing-back roles, and that flexibility is believed to be one of the key reasons Chelsea are so interested in him.

Alonso is thought to value players who can operate in multiple positions and adapt to different tactical systems, and Cambiaso fits that description perfectly.

As per Bailey, Chelsea's recruitment chiefs are also convinced that Cambiaso would be an ideal left-back for Alonso.

The 26-year-old enjoyed another strong season in Turin and remains one of Juventus' most reliable performers.

Across the 2025/26 campaign, he made 47 appearances in all competitions and contributed going forward with three goals and five assists from wide areas.

His energy, technical quality and ability to progress the ball have made him a vital part of the Juventus setup. Those qualities have also helped him establish himself as a semi regular member of the Italy national team.

Como scout Ben Mattinson has lauded Cambiaso's "elite" passing ability too, so he could be an intriguing option for Alonso.

TEAMtalk's report claims Chelsea have already opened discussions with Juventus to explore whether a deal can be completed this summer, with one of the major points surrounding those talks concerns the valuation of the player.

Chelsea are believed to rate Cambiaso at around £25 million. Juventus, however, are looking for closer to £34 million.

That gap is not enormous by modern transfer standards, but it is significant enough to require further negotiations.

There is also the matter of Barcelona, who are also interested in Cambiaso amid their search for a new full-back, but it is believed that the Blues are currently leading the race.

Interestingly, the report also suggests Nicolas Jackson could become part of the conversation.

The Senegal international has attracted interest from Juventus as they continue evaluating options to strengthen their attack, and that has created the possibility of a part-exchange deal.

Such deals are rarely straightforward, but the fact it's being discussed highlights the level of dialogue already taking place between the two clubs.

For Chelsea, including Jackson could help bridge the difference in valuation. For Juventus, it would offer an opportunity to land a proven Premier League forward while also not spending a penny.
