In a major development, Fabrizio Romano reports that Danish defender Andreas Christensen is all set to sign a new contract with FC Barcelona.
The 30-year-old centre-back’s current contract with the Blaugrana expires on 30 June, and he will now extend it by another year until 2027.
Full commitment to Barcelona
Christensen has been at Barcelona since 2022, when he arrived as a free agent after his contract at Chelsea had expired.
The Denmark international played an important role in the Catalans’ La Liga title triumph during his debut season under former manager Xavi Hernandez.

However, since then, injuries have hampered the former Chelsea ace, stopping him from becoming a regular starter at the heart of the defence.
The story was no different this past season as Christensen suffered a partial ACL rupture in December which ruled him out of action until the final phase of the season.
The fitness woes restricted him to only 18 first-team appearances in the 2025/26 season.
Despite the injury problems, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has always maintained confidence in the player.
Moreover, everyone at the club admires the defender’s attitude and professionalism, which is why president-elect Joan Laporta made it a point to offer him a renewal despite his fitness problems.

And, after some prolonged negotiations, an agreement has finally been reached between Christensen and Barcelona, with the new contract now set to be signed.
As reported by Romano, the 30-year-old defender has turned down approaches from two clubs in England and Italy in order to renew with Barcelona.
While there are no details about his new contract apart from its one-year period, it is expected that Christensen will be on a lower salary compared to past seasons, with a portion of it linked with his appearances.
As per reports, Christensen currently earns around €12 million gross per season, while the new offer would lower his fixed salary to approximately €5 million gross.
The deal, however, would include performance-related bonuses that could raise his income by a further €3-4 million if he becomes an important player under Flick and starts in at least 60% of available games.
So far, Christensen has made 98 appearances for Barcelona across four seasons, in which he has five goals and three assists to his name.
