CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Tens of thousands of people can descend upon [Bank of America Stadium](https://www.wbtv.com/2026/06/18/traffic-patterns-change-chris-stapleton-concert-uptown-charlotte/) at any given point during the week in Uptown Charlotte for a big event from concerts, Charlotte FC and the Carolina Panthers. Traffic can be a pain for those living in Uptown or going to and from events.
For the first time this weekend during the Chris Stapleton concert, there’s new traffic routes being tested to try and get people in and out of the area more efficiently.

The new routes focus on three heavy traffic spots around the stadium, and the goal is to get people to the interstates as efficiently as possible.
The main focus areas: Will be along Morehead Street, Church and Third Streets and then Graham and Mint Streets. The goal is to get people out and on I-277 and I-77 as quickly as possible.
People who live and work in Uptown said while this may be a test run, anything is better than the current traffic plans for games or concerts.
Wesley Hollingsworth lives and works in Uptown, and said right now, its tough to get around the stadium during big events.
“It’ll just be, not full chaos, but close enough,” Hollingsworth said.
Jonathan Knoll also works in Uptown, and said coming in for Panthers games is a headache.
“It’s a swamp. I mean, you have thousands of fans massing in, streets are blocked off, so it gets a little bit tight,” Knoll said. “I mean, driving, you can forget about it.”
It’s a problem both the city and Tepper Sports and Entertainment are trying to fix.
“To try to fix it at all, at least says something because it’s been pretty bad like stuck in hour and a half on a bridge, watching your gas meter slowly go down,” Hollingsworth said.
Eric Sudol, Chief Revenue Officer at Tepper Sports and Entertainment said the traffic changes for Saturday are part of an ongoing traffic study driven by fan feedback from Panthers and Charlotte FC games.
While the exact closures and patterns may change over time and with more feedback, the goal is to keep everyone safe so they can enjoy a night out in Uptown.
“Speaking with community leaders and getting feedback from the public like, hey, maybe we do need a little bit more support over here, or maybe this is a preferred route. So let’s make sure people leave a little bit quicker. It seems like they’re doing that, trying to get people more onto the way in that case,” Knoll said.
“It’ll be an excellent test of whether or not it’s going to work. But I mean, the first try is never going to be perfect,” Hollingsworth said.
The closures begin at 9 a.m. and roads will reopen around 11 p.m.-11:30 p.m.
