Araujo moved from Uruguay to play for Barcelona B, where he made an impression and ultimately rose to become a fixture of the first team. His stock has taken a hit lately, however, due to lack of discipline in big matches which have led to costly red cards.
It is said the Catalans hope that he will have a good World Cup, in part to lift his spirits, but also because it could tempt high bids. It’s not that Barcelona are pushing him out the door, but with Pau Cubarsí and Gerard Martín preferred in the center of defense, they may see Araujo as surplus to requirements.
Still, Araujo’s quality is appreciated, and the player does not want to leave. Taken these two factors into consideration, it won’t be just any offer that pries him away from Catalonia.
