Nick Chubb is not ruling out a return to theCleveland Browns. The Browns, on the other hand, seem to be taking a different path.
The four-time Pro Bowl running back reignited the idea of a reunion this week by saying that coming back to the Browns is still a possibility for him. But with training camp on the horizon, the moves the Browns made this offseason show that sentimentality will not get them their most beloved player.

Speaking at the University Hospitals’ SportsLand event on June 19, Chubb made it obvious that he has still been attached to the team that picked him in the 2018 draft. And even with that door being left open, there is no hope from the locals.
During a recent appearance with CLE Talking Heads, Spencer German explained that Cleveland could benefit by adding a veteran RB; however, he questioned whether Chubb is still the right fit. Germany stopped short of fully endorsing a reunion.
“I think there’s value in adding some veterans to this team… I’m not to sit here and act like this is Nick Chubb 3-5 years ago, but there is an experience, leadership piece that comes with this that would potentially help the Browns.”

The Browns’ recent years have seen the club become younger at RB, with second-year player Quinshon Judkins expected to lead the team after a promising rookie season, alongside Dylan Sampson and Raheim Sanders.
This young wave in the club aligns with general manager Andrew Berry’s roster-building strategy and reduces the likelihood of Chubb returning to the Browns from a football perspective.
The 30-year-old RB has been dealing with major injuries over the past three years, including the terrible knee injury that ruined his 2023 season and a foot injury that cut short his 2024 season.
Upon joining the Houston Texans in 2025, Chubb played in 15 games, recording 506 rushing yards and 3 rushing touchdowns, averaging 4.1 yards per rush.
This production shows that Chubb is still capable of playing at a high level when in the correct position; the question remains whether Cleveland still has such a position.
At least for now, the Browns seem set on continuing with their young running backs. This does not mean that Chubb will not be remembered by Cleveland fans, but perhaps his next chapter should be written elsewhere.
