"We are Liverpool": Jamie Carragher makes bold Liverpool prediction

**Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has weighed on the debate of whether or not his former club can challenge for the Premier League title in Andoni Iraola’s first season at the club.**

FSG sacked Arne Slot at the end of the 2025-26 season and moved quickly to appoint Iraola as his successor, with Liverpool already adding £96.4m worth of talent to bolster his arrival.

Jeremy Jacquet will arrive on July 1 after an agreement was reached with Rennes for his £60m move to Anfield in January. Liverpool hijacked talks between Osasuna and Newcastle United to sign Victor Munoz to increase squad depth in attack by triggering his £34.6m release clause.

More transfer incomings are expected, with Yan Diomande the subject of very serious interest from Liverpool. After seeing an initial £86m bid rejected by RB Leipzig, Liverpool are expected to increase the total package value of their offer to around £100m.

Beyond that, Liverpool are also set to sign a midfielder, centre-back and right-back if reports are accurate.

Jamie Carragher says it shouldn’t take long for Andoni Iraola to get Liverpool back to challenging for silverware

Speaking to [Sky Sports](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tw4YBReH298), Carragher says football has changed from his time in the game to now, where incoming head coaches can turn situations around very quickly like Arne Slot did in his first season.

_“Them days are gone from when I played when managers came in and it was like a four or five year project to try and win the league or come close to winning the league,”_ Carragher said.

_“Them days are gone and I said that when Arne Slot came in, you know, Jurgen Klopp’s team finished third, you’ve got to go for the league and he won the league, and it’s the same with Iraola._

_“Liverpool finished fifth last season, nowhere near good enough._

_“So, I’m not expecting Liverpool to win the league next season, but we are Liverpool, we’re going to spend big in the summer, we’ve got a lot of great players and yeah, we’re gonna challenge.”_

It will be very impressive if Iraola can mimic Slot by winning the Premier League title in his debut season, but most fans would settle for seeing the club’s identity of playing high enery attacking football restored.
