Scott McTominay and Scotland faced off against Morocco in their second match of the 2026 World Cup as the country aimed to secure their place in the knockout stages.
McTominay was unable to help Scotland in this aim, however, with the country falling to a 1-0 defeat against their opponents meaning their place in the knockouts is not confirmed just yet.
The former Manchester United midfielder started and played the entire game, fighting at the front end of the battle and being one of six players to play for the full match.
Tyler Fletcher did not make an appearance, either, and is yet to make his debut in the World Cup after being called up late.
Brazil is up next for Scotland in their final group stage fixture although, before that, the Scottish media have been reacting to McTominay’s performance.
The Scotsman gave the midfielder a 6/10, explaining that he “came to life in final 15 minutes. Had a decent penalty claim turned down towards end. Looked most likely to level.”
The Scottish Sun stated that “Scott McTominay, Ryan Christie and John McGinn had virtually no impact from middle to front in the first 45 minutes”
Daily Record, on the other hand, explained in their post-match reaction that “Scott McTominay got better as the game wore on.”
The Daily Mail Scotland stated that “Scotland were all over the place. They could not make a pass or a tackle.”
McTominay also attracted positive publicity from The Daily Mail Scotland who stated that “he was once again Scotland’s best player by a distance” whilst also adding that “he bullied Morocco’s retreating rearguard and as well as having that penalty shout he also drove in a shot from the right that was deflected up and in to the side netting.”
Scott McTominay and Scotland will now prepare to face Brazil next Wednesday, a match which is essential in dictating their future in this tournament.
