Ayari grabbed the headlines earlier this week when he scored a brace during his first appearance for Sweden at the World Cup.

However, it is believed that scouts from various teams have been keeping a close eye on the player’s progress for many months.

Brighton want to keep Ayari

It looks like the Seagulls won’t let the Swedish international leave the Amex without a fight this summer.

Ayari has a year left on his contract, which does suggest he could be on the market for a relatively low price if he doesn’t sign an extenesion.

However, Brighton have already held talks with the player and his representatives in an attempt to tie him down for the long term. It remains to be seen if they will be successful in their efforts.

Jan Paul van Hecke had a similar contract situation, but the Dutchman is set to join Tottenham for £52m.

Liverpool are in the market for midfielders

Reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that, in addition to signing another winger, sporting director Richard Hughes has been tasked with reinforcing the middle of the park.

Like Ayari, Curtis Jones is closing in on the final twelve months of his contract, and he has been tipped to join Serie A champions Inter Milan if a fee can be agreed. There are also doubts over the future of Alexis Mac Allister, who had a pretty miserable season in terms of his form.

In that context, the interest in Ayari does seem very logical. He is the same age as another midfield target, Adam Wharton, but he is a slightly different profile that may be more aligned to Andoni Iraola‘s style of football.
