Chelsea are not expected to go ahead with a “swap deal” involving Nicolas Jackson and Juventus fullback Andrea Cambiaso, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano contradicted claims that negotiations are underway to snap up Cambiaso:

“Many reports coming from Italy. Chelsea enquire about Cambiaso. Chelsea in talks to sign Cambiaso. Chelsea working on a deal to sign Cambiaso.”

“Today the new report is swap deal. Jackson to Juventus. Cambiaso to Chelsea. This is what they are reporting in Italy. I’m told that there is nothing concrete into this.”

“Who knows what deal with Jackson and also Chelsea at the moment, not entering strong for Cambiaso. This is the understanding despite the reports from Italy.”

A decision on Jackson is yet to be made

The Senegalese international will officially return from his loan spell at Bayern Munich on July 1st. He will then be part of pre-season training next month following the World Cup.

It is believed that Jackson could still have a future at Stamford Bridge, but a lot depends on new manager Xabi Alonso. There could be a straight fight between Jackson and Liam Delap for a place in the first-team squad.

Chelsea are looking at several fullbacks

While Romano has played down interest in Cambiaso, he has verified reports from elsewhere that the Blues did make enquiries for Atalanta’s Marco Palestra. However, from the sound of things, the defender will be joining Serie A champions Inter Milan.

Sporting Lisbon’s Maxi Araujo, Real Madrid’s Alvaro Carreras and Newcastle’s Lewis Hall are also thought to be on the club’s shortlist as they seek a replacement for Marc Cucurella.
