The ‘Great Dane’ Jan Molby was so suited to Liverpool he even developed a Scouse accent.
A 1984 signing from AFC Ajax, he perfectly fit the bill of the Reds’ pass-and-move philosophy of the time.
What the stocky midfielder lacked in physical attributes, he more than made up for in technical ability.
Molby was quite simply a wizard with the ball at his feet.
Whether it was spreading a pass to the other side of the pitch, plucking the ball from the sky or unleashing a shot into the top corner, Molby’s skillset would leave most footballers envious.
He was also deadly from the penalty spot, scoring 42 out of his 45 efforts for Liverpool – a success rate of 93 per cent.
It was in the 1985-86 season when Molby really arrived at Anfield.
He appeared 58 times and scored 21 goals in that Double-winning campaign, which ended with him helping to create all three goals scored in the FA Cup final victory over Everton.
