Matheus Cunha scored two first-half goals against Haiti as Brazil earned their first win of the 2026 World Cup at the second time of asking.

Cunha, who started the game, previously missed out on the starting eleven in his nation’s first game against Morocco but was given a chance against Haiti.

He did not let his coaches regret that decision, scoring in the 23rd and 36th minutes respectively to take the game away from Haiti.

The Manchester United forward came off in the 64th minute for Endrick as Brazil cruised to a 3-0 victory against their opponents.

The victory puts the country top of Group C on goal difference with Morocco in second, Scotland in third, and Haiti in fourth.

Outlets from across Brazil have now been reacting to Cunha’s efforts in the game.

Joural Do Brasil stated: “Matheus Cunha took full advantage of the opportunity given by Ancelotti and emerged stronger from the match.

“The striker scored an opportunistic goal and showed precision in the second, with a left-footed finish, signaling that he could earn a place in the starting lineup.”

O Globo explained that “Matheus Cunha dispelled any doubts about his ability to wear the historic number for the Seleção Canarinho.”

The outlet also added that he “delivered a decisive performance.”

Estadao explained that “Matheus Cunha took advantage of the opportunity Ancelotti gave him and earned points with the manager.

“He was in the right place at the right time to score the first goal, showing opportunism, and, in the second, demonstrated precision with his left-footed finish.

“It was proof that he has more skill than Igor Thiago, one of the worst players on the field against Morocco.”

Brazil face Scotland in their final group stage match of the tournament with qualification for the knockout stages practically guaranteed after victory against Haiti.
