There are transfers and then there are the ones that leave a mark on a club long after the player has gone.
Victor Munoz’s departure from Osasuna falls firmly into the second category, and the Pamplona club made sure to honour that bond with a farewell that matched the weight of the occasion.
As Liverpool’s confirmation of their 34.5 million pound signing spread across the football world this week, Osasuna took to social media to pay tribute to the winger who had lit up their season, sharing a video with a caption that said everything about how deeply he had been embraced in Navarra, “Forever, one of our own.”
Munoz himself took to Instagram in kind, writing: “Thank you Osasuna! Thank you Pamplona!”
It was a farewell as warm as the reception he had received when he first arrived.
The 22-year-old made 34 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring seven goals and contributing five assists in what was an outstanding single season at the Estadio El Sadar.
For a player who had arrived from Real Madrid having managed just four first-team appearances at the Bernabeu, Osasuna gave him the platform he needed, and he rewarded their faith emphatically.
Osasuna had acquired 50 percent of Munoz’s rights from Real Madrid for five million euros, plus variables, back in July 2025, securing him on a contract through 2030 with a 40 million euro release clause applicable to clubs other than Real Madrid.
It proved an inspired piece of business, with Liverpool triggering that clause in full to complete one of the more dramatic transfers of the summer window.
The deal itself unfolded at extraordinary speed.
Newcastle United had a fee agreed and personal terms in place, with the player having told the club he wanted to sign and a medical being arranged in the United States.
But Liverpool swooped, and Munoz chose Anfield.
The joy of the move has since been tempered by a concerning injury update.
Munoz had arrived at the World Cup with a calf problem and had only just returned to full group training with Spain when a further complication emerged.
The Royal Spanish Football Federation confirmed that an additional muscle injury had occurred during his scheduled recovery process, with no firm timeline given for his return.
The original issue dated back to May 18, when he was diagnosed with a small muscle oedema in the rectus of his right leg, which at the time was considered minor and not a threat to his World Cup participation.
The relapse has since cast a shadow over what should have been a week of pure celebration.
For Osasuna, however, the pride remains untouched.
They found him, believed in him, and helped shape him into a player now walking through the doors at Anfield.
That is a legacy worth celebrating, whatever comes next.
