Not just Victor Munoz - Ross Wilson dealt second Newcastle United snub as £8.7m bid rejected

Newcastle United have already lost the race to sign Liverpool-bound Victor Munoz.

Newcastle United have reportedly seen an £8.7million bid for Atalanta midfielder Sergej Levak rejected.

Despite never making an appearance in senior football, the 20-year-old is highly rated and possesses immense physical attributes. Levak is a 6ft 6in midfielder who has represented Croatia at every youth level.

Newcastle are keen to bolster their youth ranks in a world where PSR - now SCR - restrictions remain stringent. Ewan Jaouen - France’s under-21 goalkeeper - has already arrived and the Magpies also want a more experienced No.1.

Victor Munoz setback

However, Newcastle have been dealt a hammer blow in their pursuit for an Anthony Gordon replacement. Sources indicated that Victor Munoz - currently on Spain duty - was close to joining the club.

Toon chiefs were confident that the winger would arrive for around £35million. That was until Liverpool hijacked the deal at the final hurdle late last night.

Munoz was Newcastle’s first choice to fill the left-wing void following Gordon’s move to Barcelona. Liverpool - similarly to last summer - have now disrupted United’s plans.

Sergej Levak bid rejected

Italian media now claim Newcastle have failed with an approach for highly rated prospect Levak. According to Tuttomercato, the Magpies offered £8.7million for a youngster who, as mentioned, has not experienced professional football.

Atalanta are reluctant to sell - as was the case when Newcastle enquired about Giorgio Scalvini 12 months ago. He has only featured for their under-23 ranks but is viewed as a future star.

It should be noted that NewcastleWorld have been given no confirmation that Levak is a genuine target. For now, the speculation has solely emerged from Italy, although his profile fits the bill at St James’ Park.
