Tom Brady is a generational player, and is considered the greatest ever quarterback to play in the NFL. He is ranked among the best players in the sport, and won a record seven Super Bowl titles. He was part of one of the greatest NFL dynasties with the New England Patriots.
Having retired from the sport, he is still respected by many. However, even someone as accomplished as Brady has some regrets.
Tom Brady expresses regret with fatherhood
Brady has three children with two women, actress Bridget Moynahan and ex-wife and supermodel Gisele Bündchen. His children are John (Moynahan’s child), and Benjamin and Vivian with Bündchen. Being a responsible family man, he takes care of them all and co-parents with their mothers.

Despite his best efforts for them, Brady still has some regrets. He once talked about it and became emotional while discussing fatherhood in a clip from ESPN+’s 2022 documentary series “Man in the Arena.” At the time, he was still playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. During episode 10, Brady teared up reflecting on his relationship with his own father Tom Brady Sr, and recognized his many sacrifices. That clip has recently gone viral once more on social media.
He has often credited his father for his upbringing and success, and admits he has not done the same for his own children. Admitting this fact brought him to become teary. He said, “When I think about being a dad, I think about him because of what my dad meant to me, and I know I’m not as good a dad to my kids that my dad’s been to me.”
His raw admission was praised by many fans, and also reminded many of his previous take on parenthood.
Tom Brady’s unique take on parenthood
Brady once responded to golfer Scottie Scheffler’s opinion that he would rather be a good father than a good golfer. The quarterback thought that both did not need to be exclusive.
He said, “I think part of being a great father is being a great example of doing what it takes to take care of your family. I chose to do it by playing football. My dedication to the sport, the hours of practice, the moments when I was laser focused—those were times when I believe I was doing the best possible thing for my family and my kids.”
He also added, “By prioritizing my profession and teaching, by example, what it takes to be really good at your job, what it takes to follow through on commitments, what it takes to be a great teammate; and showing them, also by example, that work is a big part of all of our lives.”
Tom Brady continues to be remembered as one of the greatest NFL players, while also trying to be a better parent at the same time.
