Real Madrid have moved to publicly distance themselves from the swirling speculation surrounding Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise, releasing an official club statement categorically denying any contact with the player, his representatives, or anyone connected to his entourage.
The statement from the Spanish giants comes amid weeks of intense transfer noise surrounding the 24-year-old Frenchman, who has emerged as one of the most coveted players in European football following back-to-back Bundesliga title wins with Bayern Munich.
Olise has accumulated 27 goals across 66 appearances in his first two seasons at the Allianz Arena since joining Crystal Palace for around £50 million in 2024.
This past campaign alone, he led the Bundesliga assist charts with 18, five clear of his nearest rival, while adding 12 goals in the league to contribute an astonishing 30 direct goal involvements in the top flight.
The links to Real Madrid have been building for some time.
Spanish journalist Jose Felix Diaz had claimed that Olise was the “Galactico” Florentino Perez had been promising, insisting the club intended to move for him after the World Cup, and that Bayern had already been approached with an offer of 150 million euros, which was rejected.
Marca further reported that Real Madrid were preparing a bid of up to 220 million euros for the winger, which would place it just 2 million euros below the world-record fee Paris Saint-Germain paid for Neymar in 2017.
The supposed “mega signing” Perez had teased in public turned out to point in a different direction entirely.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the Olise pursuit had always been Madrid’s primary obsession, and that the 150 million euro offer made for Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez was essentially a bluff, designed to complicate Barcelona’s own pursuit of the Argentine rather than signal a genuine change in targets.
Olise has also been firmly on Liverpool’s radar.
Reports had always indicated that Liverpool viewed the Bayern winger as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah and were prepared to break the bank to sign the France international.
Bayern Munich players were said to be concerned by Liverpool’s well-documented interest, with club insider Christian Falk noting the possibility of an exit being discussed internally, despite the club’s public insistence that Olise is not for sale at any price.
It is against this backdrop that Real Madrid issued their statement, which reads in full,“In response to reports in various media outlets regarding an alleged interest from our club in Bayern Munich player Michael Olise, Real Madrid CF wishes to state that it has not had any direct or indirect contact with the aforementioned player, his representatives, or anyone in his entourage.”
”Real Madrid also wishes to highlight the excellent institutional relationship it maintains with Bayern Munich, with whom it shares a long history of mutual respect, collaboration and admiration, and regrets the spread of speculation that does not correspond to reality.”
”Both clubs have always maintained a relationship based on trust and mutual respect, which is reflected, among other aspects, in the shared conviction that any potential interest in a player belonging to the other club must be dealt with first between the entities themselves, in accordance with the principles of institutional loyalty that have historically governed the relations between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.”
The emphatic language suggests Madrid are keen to protect their relationship with Bayern, even as the German club has repeatedly made clear they will not entertain offers below 200 million euros for the winger, and are actively preparing a significant contract renewal to keep him in Munich long-term.
Whether this statement draws a definitive line under the saga or merely reflects the current state of a negotiation yet to begin in earnest remains to be seen.
