Cody Gakpo helped send the Netherlands on their way against Sweden in Dallas, Texas, with the Liverpool winger teeing up Bryan Brobbey to open the scoring early in the game.
When the Liverpool man was set free down the left flank, he put in a perfect low ball for Sunderland striker Brobbey to poke home. Gakpo looked sharp all game as he offered a reminder of his talents to new club head coach Andoni Iraola.
This week, Liverpool brought in Victor Munoz from Osasuna for a fee of $46 million (£35 million). The Spaniard plays mainly off the left wing, meaning he and Gakpo could be in direct competition for minutes next term.
But Gakpo showed in the season before last how well he can respond to competition. He was much better when he had to fight for his spot alongside Luis Diaz.
The Netherlands, who also have Liverpool stars Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch, went two goals up in the first half. Brobbey got a second when another low ball came in, this time from the right.
Gakpo has been linked with a move away from Liverpool this summer, with Tottenham said to be keen. However, the Reds need more attacking numbers, not fewer.

Rio Ngumoha is another option, of course, but the 17-year-old will need to be carefully managed. With Hugo Ekitike out injured, Gakpo is also capable of playing as a number nine, where he could help carry the load alongside Alexander Isak.
"It is, of course, a shame that the manager has been sacked," Gakpo said a couple of weeks ago when Arne Slot was fired.
"Especially so soon after the season where we had fought to qualify for the Champions League.
"But yes, I believe the club released a statement about that, with the explanation in it. Ultimately, I don’t think anyone, any of the players, saw it coming. But it certainly happened.

"Many of our players at the club are also working towards the World Cup now, so we’ll have to quickly put that aside, no matter how difficult that can be for someone."
Asked whether he had been in touch with Slot since the news of his dismissal, Gakpo added: "I sent him a message to thank him for the past two years, and of course with the highlight of last season."
Having drawn 2-2 with Japan in their World Cup opener, the Netherlands will face Tunisia next. After his holiday, Gakpo will return to work under Iraola ahead of next season.
