Arsenal have "officially" entered race for £43m winger, Man Utd "very interested" in him

Arsenal could compete with Manchester United to sign West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville this summer, according to Foot Mercato.

The Gunners are poised to strengthen their left wing with the possibility of both Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli heading through the exit door.

They have already been linked with Club Brugge’s Christos Tzolis and Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers. Summerville has now emerged as the latest target.

Foot Mercato claim that Arsenal have now ‘officially’ entered the race for the Dutchman, who could be prised away for around £43 million this summer.

However, they are not alone in the pursuit with Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and United in the mix. The Red Devils are reportedly ‘very interested’ in him.

Arsenal could consider Summerville for left-wing competition

Trossard and Martinelli made several key goal contributions during the first half of last season, but their involvement was minimal during the back end of the campaign.

Trossard went through a four-month run without scoring or providing an assist. He ended the streak with an assist against Fulham before netting a crucial winner at West Ham United.

Despite this, the Belgian’s days are numbered at Arsenal. With his contract expiring next summer, the 31-year-old is highly likely to leave the Gunners during the ongoing transfer window.

Martinelli’s contract includes a clause to extend his stay until June 2028, but the hierarchy could cash in on him too if they plan to make a couple of signings to reinforce the left wing.

A marquee signing, such as Rogers or Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola, could be pursued. On top of this, manager Mikel Arteta may want a solid competitor for a lower transfer fee.

Tzolis has been linked after a stellar season at Brugge with 51 goal contributions, but Arsenal could give priority to someone with vast Premier League experience over the Greek ace.

Summerville bagged only five goals and four assists for West Ham in the top-flight last term, but he had a tremendous spell between January and February before a calf injury slowed him down.

The Dutchman still made the cut for the World Cup, which raised some eyebrows, but he has made his mark with goals against Japan and Sweden, operating from the right wing.

Summerville, who has largely played from the left flank for the Hammers, also played a big part in the third goal and provided the assist for the fourth in the 5-1 rout of Sweden.

If Arsenal have a genuine interest in signing him, they may need to move quickly, as his performances at the tournament could attract more offers and thereby increase the price tag.
