Manchester United have all-but completed their first signing of the 2026 summer transfer window.
Brazilian midfielder Ederson, who has played his club football for Serie A side Atalanta in the last four seasons, is set to sign on the dotted line for Manchester United, with all parties in agreement for a deal to take place.
A late 2026 World Cup call-up has not appeared to have put a significant delay on the signing’s completion, as Ederson was due to conduct a medical in New York last week while on Brazil duty.
The 26-year-old featured in Brazil’s 3-0 group stage win over Haiti, playing nine minutes, giving Manchester United fans a first glimpse of what could be to come had they not watched him play for Atalanta.
Speaking to Sky in Italy afterwards, Ederson was asked about the impending transfer to Manchester United, and responded, “I have to wait. Now I have to enjoy this moment, then we will see.
“Certainly, everything is almost done, but now I to enjoy this moment. This is a wonderful experience and you have to enjoy the most.”
It’s a fair take – Ederson appeared excited about his future and admitted the move to Manchester United will be completed, but stayed focused on the task at hand. Delivering a World Cup for his nation will be top priority for now.
Ederson completed 8 touches in his short World Cup debut, including a missed chance worth 0.25xG that he just did not approach right. Half of his touches came in the opposition box, showing Brazil’s dominance but also the incoming United midfielder’s capability to play in advanced positions.
If United fans didn’t already feel confident enough about the transfer, an admission from Ederson himself over what’s to come will surely be enough. Their first signing of the summer is nearly done, and it appears a solid one.
