Inter Miami are poised to add another major name to their growing collection of global stars, with Brazilian midfielder Casemiro set to join the club after a deal was agreed in principle, [according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano](https://x.com/fabrizioromano/status/2068295942483198454?s=46).
Romano reported that a verbal agreement has been reached between all parties, with the formal steps completed and only the official signing and announcement remaining. The former Real Madrid and Manchester United midfielder reportedly made it clear he wanted the chance to play alongside eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi in Major League Soccer.
The move would be another serious statement by Inter Miami, who always find a way around roster rules and financial roadblocks to continue to build around Messi as they chase a second straight MLS Cup, following the FIFA World Cup break.
Toronto FC already experienced Miami’s firepower firsthand in May when Messi helped lead Inter Miami to a convincing victory at BMO Field. Adding a player of Casemiro’s pedigree only strengthens a squad that is expected to be among the favourites in the Eastern Conference during the second half of the season.
Widely regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders of his generation, the 34-year-old won five UEFA Champions League titles during a trophy-laden spell with Real Madrid before moving to Manchester United in 2022. His leadership, ball-winning ability and experience in high-pressure matches could provide another layer of quality to an already star-studded Miami roster.
Toronto FC and the rest of the Eastern Conference now face an even tougher challenge when MLS play resumes.
