Gary Neville urges Manchester United to sign FIFA World Cup star over £80 million-rated Premier League midfielder

Former Manchester United right-back Gary Neville has urged the Red Devils to make a move for FIFA World Cup star Felix Nmecha. The pundit has backed the 25-year-old as an alternative to West Ham United star Mateus Fernandes.

Michael Carrick's side have been heavily linked with Fernandes but West Ham's valuation have made the negotiations difficult. The Hammers reportedly want £80 million for the 21-year-old despite suffering relegation at the end of last season.

Gary Neville has touted Borussia Dortmund star Felix Nmecha as an alternative to Fernandes following his impressive showings in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The pundit said, as quoted by Metro:

"The more he plays like he did the other night the more expensive he’ll get. But at the moment, we hear Manchester United are being quoted £100 million for the West Ham boy Fernandes, so they’re going to have to be looking around this tournament and parts of Europe. He looked outstanding the other night, it looked like he had absolutely everything."

Felix Nmecha came through Manchester City's youth system, moved to VfL Wolfsburg in 2021, and joined Borussia Dortmund in 2023. He has made 112 appearances for the Bundesliga side so far, scoring 13 goals and providing eight assists. The 25-year-old has been excellent for Germany in the 2026 FIFA World Cup so far, scoring once and providing two assists in two games.

Manchester United, meanwhile, are desperately looking to strengthen their midfield following their Champions League qualification. They are already closing in on the signature of Atalanta midfielder Ederson, as per reports.

Summerville has scored twice and provided one assist in two appearances for Ronald Koeman's side in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The winger has emerged as one of the most in-demand players following West Ham's relegation at the end of last season.

Manchester United were heavily linked with a move for the former Leeds United winger. Now, Premier League champions Arsenal have also reportedly entered the race to sign the former Feyenoord academy graduate.
