Manchester United are preparing for a busy summer transfer window with the market now open. Michael Carrick's team are back in Champions League action next season and will be keen to strengthen their squad with additional depth and quality.

Expectations are high at Old Trafford following a third-place Premier League finish and with key player Casemiro leaving, at least one replacement will be required. Ederson is set to be the first new signing.

However, a former striker has called on the club to enter the race for one of World Cup 2026's outstanding performers so far, Ivory Coast and RB Leipzig sensation Yan Diomande.

The 19-year-old has impressed on the international stage and in the Bundesliga, with Liverpool believed to be leading the chase, but United have been urged to disrupt this move as the Manchester Evening News examines the latest transfer developments from Old Trafford.

Yan Diomande hijack

United's fierce rivals are reportedly prepared to pay £86m for Diomande this summer, though his current club are said to be demanding a fee exceeding £100m.

Louis Saha, who previously played as a striker for United, has urged his former club to pursue this deal and attempt to snatch the player from Liverpool's grasp. He told Casinolyze.co.uk: "Man Utd should hijack Liverpool's interest in Yan Diomande, definitely.

"This type of winger now dominates football. When you have that confidence and simplicity in your game, to dribble, pass, be physical, and be courageous, I love that. Those styles are amazing.

"I think Diomande had a great opening game, and it's been a year with Leipzig where he's done really well. I am pleased to see that kind of career because it was not easy starting in the US and now being a superstar. I think he can be a superstar like Lamine Yamal."

Marcus Rashford twist

Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford finds himself at the centre of fresh transfer speculation this summer. The England international, who found the net in the Three Lions' World Cup opener against Croatia, spent the previous campaign on loan at Barcelona.

Though a £26m purchase option was included in the loan arrangement, it wasn't triggered and has now lapsed, leaving Rashford's long-term prospects uncertain.

Another temporary switch to Catalonia has been suggested. Yet according to German publication Bild, Bayern Munich have now set their sights on the 28-year-old.

Bayern have reportedly made contact with Rashford's camp following their failed pursuit of his England colleague Anthony Gordon, who has moved to Barcelona. However, salary demands are believed to make any potential deal improbable.
