**Fabrizio Romano reports that claims of Liverpool and Barcelona moving to sign Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven are inaccurate.**

The Netherlands international has been very impressive at the 2026 FIFA World Cup this summer, but reportedly, his agents have reached an impasse with Spurs in talks over renewing his contract. This impasse has allegedly given Liverpool and Barca the impression that they could take advantage of the breakdown in talks to sign him.
This, however, has been refuted by Fabrizio Romano, who claims his own info contradicts Verweij’s sources.
Spurs consider van de Ven untouchable this summer

Speaking via his [YouTube channel](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvrPzrfVP5Q), Romano shared an insight into what Tottenham’s plans for and whether its feasible for Liverpool to make a move for the Dutchman or not.

_“Micky van de Ven linked with Liverpool? What I can say is that he is considered a crucial player by Tottenham management and Roberto De Zerbi, same as Pedro Porro who signed a new contract._
_“He’s completely untouchable and they want van de Ven to stay. So the expectation is no movements around Micky van de Ven in this summer transfer window._
_“If something changes, I will let you know, but the stance today is very clear – no exit for Micky van de Ven.”_
Liverpool need centre-back reinforcements this summer

While a £60m deal has already been agreed to sign Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes, Ibrahima Konate has moved to Real Madrid on a free transfer which means Liverpool are back to square one in terms of depth at central defence.
Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk are the only senior options at the club before Jacquet joins the club, which is dangerous given the former’s injury history.
Van Dijk is robust and virtually never gets injured, but he is getting older so overplaying him comes with increasing risk.
