Manchester United could yet make a move to sign a midfielder in the transfer window that they appeared to have turned their back on earlier in the summer.
The Red Devils have been in the market for at least two central midfielders this summer, with Casemiro departing the club at the conclusion of his contract at Old Trafford.
Ederson will arrive at the club after the end of the World Cup, after United agreed a £38million deal to sign the Brazilian from Serie A side Atalanta.

The United net has been cast wide in search of a second signing, with the likes of Elliot Anderson - once the club's number one transfer priority this summer - Sandro Tonali, Aurelien Thcouameni and Mateus Fernandes on the shortlist.
But one name that had been on the list towards the end of last season, but had seemingly been scratched off, may just be back on it.
Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton was named as a potential signing for the midfield department, but GIVEMESPORT understands he was seen as too similar in profile to Kobbie Mainoo.
Mainoo had fallen out of favour under former boss Ruben Amorim and looked set to leave Old Trafford until the Portuguese was sacked and Mainoo came back into the fold, playing a starring role under Michael Carrick.
Mainoo would sign a new contract at Old Trafford and it was thought that United's pursuit of Wharton was therefore over.
However, according to Teamtalk, United's interest never actually went away. They report that United have "maintained a long-standing appreciation of the former Blackburn Rovers star and continue to monitor his situation closely".

Wharton, like a number of the other names on the shortlist, could command a fee in the region of £100million for Palace to sanction a sale.
The 22-year-old missed just four of the Eagles' 38 Premier League matches last season and played an integral role in their run to win their first ever piece of European silverware - the UEFA Conference League.
Manchester United face competition from Liverpool and Tottenham

If their interest remains genuine, they may have to act quickly to get a deal done. Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for the Englishman and have been in talks with Palace over completing a transfer. Tottenham are another team who have been linked with signing the youngster, as they look to revamp their midfield under Roberto De Zerbi too.
It is no surprise to see such interest in Wharton. Former Palace manager Oliver Glasner, who left the club at the end of the season, said: "He's one of the best, not just in England, in the world."
