“Manchester City And Arsenal Are Lurking”–Journalist Expects Transfer Battle For£100M Rated Midfielder

Man City and Arsenal are still interested in signing Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali, according to The Telegraph reporter Luke Edwards.

Tottenham have had an opening bid worth £75m rejected for the Italian international, but posting on X, Edwards says it could soon become a three-way battle for the player’s signature:

I’m told there are several clubs interested in signing Tonali but Tottenham are the first to have a bid rejected. Keep an eye on Manchester City and Arsenal are lurking too #nufc #thfc #mcfc #gunners https://t.co/9dba9p76cX

Tonali is believed to be valued at around £100m by the Magpies, with £85m up front and another £15m in add-ons likely to be enough to complete the deal.

Man City could sign 2 midfielders

It was originally reported that the Cityzens would only make a move for Tonali if their attempts to snap up Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson fell through.

However, there are now suggestions that the Manchester club could look to recruit BOTH of them. It would take in excess of £200m to bring in the pair, so the summer transfer budget would take a serious hit.

Doubts over Rodri’s future may influence a move for Tonali

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Rodri. Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said that there has been no progress on agreeing a contract extension:

“There is no agreement over new contract for Rodri, so that’s the understanding, still far from an agreement between the parties and for sure financially, and also in terms of personal decision, this could be an important point to understand that the future of Rodri again is not guaranteed.”

With Rodri not certain to be at the Etihad for much longer, it does provide an insight as to why Director of Football Hugo Viana is considering a move for Tonali.
