Amad Diallo and Ivory Coast met Germany on Saturday night as both sides looked to confirm their place in the knockout stages of the World Cup.

Germany came into the fixture off the back of a 7-1 victory against Curacao whilst Ivory Coast claimed a late win against Ecuador in their first group fixture with Amad scoring late on.

The African side took the lead in the 30th minute with Franck Kessie firing the ball into the back of the net from six yards out.

The Germans would react in the second half, though, scoring an equalizer in the 68th minute through Deniz Undav before snatching the win late on with Undav claiming his brace.

Amad Diallo did not score or assist in the game but did create two chances whilst also missing one big chance.

With disappointment filling the atmosphere following the game for Ivory Coast, the nation’s media have been reacting to both Amad’s performance and the team’s performance overall.

Linf Drome commented on Diallo’s impact, stating: “It’s true that starting Yan Diomandé on the right wing and then bringing on Amad Diallo in the second half, as against Ecuador, might have yielded a better result.”

SuperSport, on the other hand, explained that it was “not his best performance, but he did produce two key passes and tried to create something on the right wing with seven progressive carries.”

Ivory Coast still have a reasonable chance of making the knockout stages with three points already secured and one game to go in their group.

The African nation next face Curacao in their final group game on Thursday 25th June. A draw is likely to take the nation through to the knockout stages but a win would ensure that qualification is secured.
