Arsenal star William Saliba has revealed that he is playing through injuries at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The 25-year-old has admitted that he is playing for France in the tournament with a back problem.
Saliba played a pivotal role in helping Mikel Arteta's Arsenal win the Premier League title last season. He played 50 games across competitions throughout the season, forming the best defence in the Premier League.
The centre-back has claimed that he is giving his all for France at the FIFA World Cup and thanked the coaching staff. The Arsenal star said, as quoted by The Mirror:
"I've had some minor niggles for several months. I've been gritting my teeth because there was the Champions League and the Premier League. But the coaching staff are handling it very well. The World Cup comes round only once every four years, so you've got to grit your teeth. I'm not at 100 per cent, but there are plenty of players who aren't at 100 per cent either, you cannot make excuses."
Saliba started at the heart of the defence alongside Dayot Upamecano for France in their FIFA World Cup opener against Senegal. Didier Deschamps' side started slowly against the African side but still managed to secure a 3-1 win.
Kylian Mbappe scored a brace for Les Bleus while Bradley Barcola scored once. Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) youngster Ibrahim Mbaye scored for Pape Thiaw's side.
Arsenal enter the race to sign 2026 FIFA World Cup star: Reports
Arsenal have reportedly entered the race to sign West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville, who is also wanted by Manchester United. The 24-year-old has been in impressive form for the Netherlands in the 2026 FIFA World Cup so far.
Summerville has found the back of the net twice while turning provider on one occasion in two appearances in the FIFA World Cup so far. Following West Ham's relegation from the Premier League, the 24-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away.
Manchester United were previously linked with the Dutchman and now Arsenal have also joined the chase. He did well for West Ham last season despite the Hammers suffering relegation. The winger, who can play on either flank, scored seven goals and provided five assists in 34 appearances across competitions last season.
