The Senators are closing in on a deal to trade captain Brady Tkachuk to the Panthers for four draft picks, including three first-rounders, according to multiple reports.
Tkachuk, 26, had 22 goals and 37 assists in 60 games for the Senators last season, which was his eighth season with the team after being drafted fourth overall by them in 2018. He has two seasons left on a seven-year, $57.5 million deal he signed in Ottawa in 2021, which included a no-movement clause. According to reports, Tkachuk gave Ottawa a four-team list of preferred destinations: Florida, Vegas, Carolina, and Minnesota.
That list notably does not include the Bruins, who were repeatedly rumored to be interested in Tkachuk. The former Boston University forward has the type of goal-scoring touch (213 goals in 572 career games) and physical edge (821 penalty minutes in that span) that fits the Bruins’ style, historically. Instead, he’ll join a division rival in Florida.
The trade also means Brady will join his brother, Matthew, as a member of the Panthers. Matthew and the Panthers won the 2024 and 2025 Stanley Cups before missing the postseason last year with the third-worst record in the Eastern Conference. Brady and Matthew were centerpieces on the United States hockey team that won a gold medal in the 2026 Winter Olympics.

The Senators acquire Florida’s ninth overall pick in this year’s draft, as well as the No. 25 pick previously owned by the Kraken. Florida acquired the latter pick from Seattle in a deal that sent forward Mackie Samoskevich to Seattle on Sunday. Ottawa will also receive a 2029 first-round pick and 2030 second-round pick in the deal, according to reports.
The Senators have three first-round picks in this year’s draft, including the No. 32 pick. The NHL restored that draft choice in March after it was previously stripped.
