Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville thinks Man Utd should be “looking” at Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha to strengthen their options in the middle of the park.

The 25-year-old has caught the eye with his performances for Germany at the World Cup, and Neville has suggested that his former club would be wise to consider the midfielder before spending close to £100m on West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes:

“The more he plays like he did the other night, the more expensive he’ll get. But at the moment, we hear Manchester United are being quoted £100 million for the West Ham boy Fernandes, so they’re going to have to be looking around this tournament and parts of Europe.”

“He looked outstanding the other night; it looked like he had absolutely everything.”

Man Utd have been scouting the midfielder

It was reported earlier this week by Sky Germany that the Red Devils have Nmecha on their radar, with Manchester City and Real Madrid also keen on him.

For their part, Dortmund are reluctant to let him go, having locked him down to a new four-year contract earlier this year, but the Bundesliga side could still be tempted to sell if they receive a good enough fee.

Nmecha’s price tag is lower than Fernandes’s

Reports suggest that Dortmund could be willing to part ways with the German international if they receive an offer in the region of €70m (£60.7m).

That means he could cost close to £20m less than United’s current top midfield target, Fernandes. However, as Neville rightly points out, Dortmund could very easily up their valuation.

Another source in the German media has claimed that Nmecha could end up on the market for €120m (£104m), which demonstrates how crazy things can get in a World Cup year.
