After threatening Fernandes move: Spurs plot cut-price bid to try and tempt Man Utd into selling £40m star to them

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly sizing up a cut-price offer to try and take Marcus Rashford off Manchester United’s hands for less than his £40 million release clause.

It comes after Barceona bypassed his £26m buy option, which expired last Monday.

Tottenham rivaling United for Mateus Fernandes

Spurs have sprung into action in the market in recent days, and in doing so, have directly impacted United’s summer plans.

They opened talks with West Ham for Mateus Fernandes over the weekend, making it clear that they’d be willing to pay a lucrative sum to prise the 21-year-old from the London Stadium before 2026/2027 gets underway.

While Fernandes is said to have his heart set on a switch to United, even amidst interest from Real Madrid, the Irons are ready to sell to the highest bidder, which is more likely to be Tottenham.

What’s Spurs’ stance on Rashford?

Now, it’s been claimed that the North London outfit have added Rashford to their shortlist, according to iPaper Sport’s Peter Hall.

However, they will attempt to lowball United rather than simply triggering the forward’s buyout clause.

Although all signs have been pointing towards the exit for Rashford this transfer window, United aren’t in any rush to sell.

He is still driving up his value and interest thanks to his stellar display in England’s World Cup opener against Croatia last week, so other suitors are bound to enter the mix if the forward can maintain such form throughout the tournament.

If not, the 28-year-old is contracted to Old Trafford until June 2028, allowing INEOS to do as they please and perhaps even reintegrate him into the first-team squad when he reports to Carrington for pre-season.
