Tottenham's next transfer after Sandro Tonali decided with £40m Man Utd raid in sight

Tottenham could reportedly follow up the potential signing of Sandro Tonali with a surprise raid on Manchester United. The north Londoners have made a fast start to the summer transfer window, having already welcomed three new arrivals. They signed Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free transfers before landing Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke in a £52million deal.

Roberto De Zerbi is now looking to improve his midfield ranks and has reportedly identified Tonali as a top summer target. Tottenham made an opening bid worth around £80m over the weekend, but the offer was immediately rejected by Newcastle. It's claimed the Magpies are looking for closer to £100m to sanction Tonali's exit before the start of next season.

Tottenham are expected to return to the table with an improved offer in the coming days, with club chiefs eager to get a deal done.

Adding more firepower is believed to be another priority, given that Tottenham only scored 48 league goals over the course of last season.

Their search has reportedly led them to Marcus Rashford, who is widely expected to leave United this summer after spending last season on loan at Barcelona.

According to the i, the England international has emerged as a target for Spurs, although it could be difficult to secure his signature.

That's because they aren't willing to pay his £40m release clause and will instead look to negotiate a lower price in talks with United.

The report adds that Rashford currently doesn't want to join another Premier League club, with the 28-year-old favouring a move abroad.

He was keen to stay at Barcelona following the end of his loan spell, but the Catalan giants decided not to activate his £26m purchase clause before it expired.

It's claimed that Bayern Munich have also been keeping tabs on Rashford and could offer him the chance to resume his career outside of England

If no such opportunity arrives, the forward is reportedly open to staying at United and trying to prove himself under Michael Carrick next season.
