Coaching instability across Europe continues to shape club projects as teams refine long-term structures heading into the new season.
Ajax, in particular, have been undergoing internal changes as they look to stabilise both senior and development pathways.
Leadership changes at club level often have knock-on effects on recruitment.
That backdrop has now been reinforced by a fresh managerial departure in Amsterdam.
Ajax officially part ways with Oscar Garcia Junyent
Ajax have officially parted ways with head coach Oscar Garcia Junyent after both parties mutually agreed to terminate his contract, ending what was originally set to run until June 2027, as the club announced on their website.
Oscar Garcia Junyent only arrived at the club in February to take charge of the Ajax U23 side before quickly being promoted to first-team responsibilities.
His elevation came just a month later when he stepped in to replace Fred Grim, taking charge of senior duties during a transitional period for the Dutch club.
Despite the instability, he managed to guide Ajax into the UEFA Conference League qualifying rounds via the play-offs before his exit was finalised.
The decision brings an abrupt end to his short spell in charge, with Ajax now expected to reassess their coaching direction moving forward.
Technical Director Jordi Cruyff has now publicly addressed the departure, acknowledging the difficult circumstances Garcia faced during his brief tenure.
Cruyff said, “Oscar joined Ajax U23 at a difficult moment. Shortly afterwards, we needed him with the first team, and that was not an easy situation either.
“We are grateful for his efforts and, of course, wish him every success in the next stage of his career.”
The former Manchester United midfielder is now playing a key executive role at Ajax, having officially taken up his position as Technical Director on February 1, 2026.
His appointment has reintroduced a familiar footballing name to the club’s leadership structure, with Cruyff’s influence once again visible at board level in Amsterdam.
Cruyff’s connection to Manchester United remains a notable part of his football journey, having joined the club from Barcelona in August 1996 for £1.4 million.
During his four-year spell at Old Trafford between 1996 and 2000, his time was heavily affected by persistent knee injuries that limited his consistency.
Even so, he still registered 58 appearances in all competitions and scored 8 goals while contributing to a successful squad.
His time at United also brought silverware, as he collected three Premier League titles, an FA Cup, and an FA Charity Shield despite his injury setbacks.
With Ajax now entering another period of restructuring, attention will turn to how quickly the club can stabilise after another unexpected managerial change.
