The news about Micky van de Ven’s potential Liverpool transfer has taken a new turn. The Dutch center-back may not move out from Tottenham Hotspur for this season.
Micky van de Ven to remain at Tottenham
There were rumors circulating that the 25-year-old Van de Ven may move to Liverpool. There were also rumors that Barcelona showed interest in the Dutch defender. However, as reported by Echo, journalist Fabrizio Romano put the rumors to rest. He confirmed that the Spurs were in no mood to let Micky van de Ven go.
Van de Ven was acquired by Tottenham from VfL Wolfsburg for a total package of £43 million in 2023. This included a preliminary signing amount of £34.5 million and potential add-ons of £8.5 million. The Dutch defender previously played for VfL Wolfsburg between 2021 and 2023. Before that, he represented the Volendam club between 2019 and 2021.

How would van de Ven’s entry have benefited Liverpool
For now, Micky van de Ven is not going anywhere. However, if he joined the Reds, it would be a bonus for the team’s defense. Liverpool experienced a rough time in the 2025-26 season. They finished fifth overall in the Premier League. They also made it to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League. However, the underperformance led to Arne Slot being replaced by Andoni Iraola. The new manager aims to make the Reds a better and tougher side for the next season. If Micky van de Ven had agreed to the deal, he could’ve helped in improving the Reds’ defensive lineup.
On the other hand, the Dutch defender performed well individually for Tottenham Hotspur in the 2025-26 Premier League. The same couldn’t be said for his team, though. The Spurs narrowly avoided relegation by finishing in 17th place in the Premier League. They also faced early exits in the FA Cup and the EFL Cup. However, Tottenham made it to the Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League. They also finished second in the 2025 UEFA Super Cup. The Spurs lost the final to Paris Saint-Germain 4-3 on penalties.
Future gameplan for Micky van de Ven
Micky van de Ven is currently focusing on the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026. The Dutch defender is a core member of the Dutch squad announced on May 27. Netherlands have virtually secured the ticket to the Round of 32. After drawing their opening match against Japan, the Dutch **football**team overcame Sweden by 5-1. They will now face Tunisia in the final group match on June 26. The Dutch team hasn’t entered the final four since the 2014 edition. Netherlands finished third in that edition as they defeated hosts Brazil 3-0.
After the World Cup, the defender has a lot to do. He doesn’t have much to worry about on the fitness front. However, he does need to work on his discipline concerns. The center-back was served nine yellow cards in the 2025-26 Premier League. He was also given a red card in one game. If he wants to continue with the Spurs, Van de Ven needs to ensure that he overcomes the inconsistencies in time for the upcoming season.
