The Pittsburgh Steelers’ 2026 offseason practices concluded in the middle of June, and next up is the team’s annual training camp, which will get underway in the latter part of July at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. Ahead of that, we will preview the team’s offseason roster three players at a time as part of a multi-post series. This Steelers ’90 in 30′ roster preview, which includes outlooks for every player, is organized alphabetically by last name for easy follow-along. This series figures to exceed 90 players this year as the team can carry 91 players during the offseason due to the allowance of one international player designation.
The first three players we will preview ahead of Steelers 2026 training camp are Drew Allar, Spencer Anderson, and Kyler Baugh.
QB Drew Allar: The Steelers selected Allar out of Penn State with the 76th selection in the 2026 NFL Draft. His selection came on the heels of the organization being highly likely to select another quarterback in the draft for a second consecutive year.
At Penn State, Allar participated in 45 games on his way to registering 633 completions on 1,002 pass attempts for 7,402 yards with 61 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He played in only six games in 2025 as a senior due to a broken left ankle that required surgery.
Despite missing most of the 2025 season due to his injury, Allar was able to ultimately participate in a limited fashion at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine.
Allar measured in at the combine at 6052, 228 pounds with 9’7/8-inch hands. He is 22 years of age upon entering his rookie season in Pittsburgh.
Outlook: With the Steelers re-signing veteran QB Aaron Rodgers this offseason, Allar will now be looking at making a run at the backup job this summer.
The Steelers also have last year’s drafted quarterback, Will Howard, still on the roster in addition to veteran backup QB Mason Rudolph. All signs point toward the Steelers opening this year’s training camp with four quarterbacks on the team’s 91-man roster.
Realistically, Allar will be hard-pressed to open the 2026 regular season as the Steelers’ primary backup quarterback behind Rodgers. In all likelihood, Allar will open the regular season as the Steelers third-string quarterback behind either Howard or Rudolph.
There is, however, a slight chance that the Steelers will keep four quarterbacks on the 53-man roster this year. Should that ultimately happen, Allar could wind up fourth on that depth chart depending on how training camp and the preseason go for him.
Expect Allar to be on the gameday inactive list quite frequently throughout his rookie season as the team’s listed emergency third quarterback. Barring an injury to Rodgers in 2026, there’s a good chance that Allar never plays a regular-season snap as a rookie.
OG Spencer Anderson: Originally selected by the Steelers in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Maryland, Anderson has done an excellent job so far of sticking on the roster and logging valuable and meaningful playing time. Last season, Anderson logged 382 regular-season snaps on offense and 68 more on special teams. He started seven games in his third NFL season as well.
Anderson showed considerable positional flexibility in 2025, used frequently as an extra offensive lineman/fullback/eligible receiver on roughly 175 regular-season snaps. Just 193 of 382 offensive snaps in 2025 came at left guard, with two others coming at left tackle.
While Anderson did log 77 right guard snaps during the 2024 regular season, he did not play that position at all throughout the 2025 season.
The Steelers targeted Anderson in the passing game just once in 2025, and he caught that pass for a gain of 4 yards.
Outlook: When the Steelers report to Latrobe for the start of their 2026 training camp, chances are good that Anderson will initially be installed as the starting right guard, especially if OG Mason McCormick is flipped over to the starting left guard spot. At the very least, Anderson should be given the opportunity to win the starting right guard position during training camp and the preseason.
Anderson will obviously have a lot of competition for the starting right guard spot this summer in the form of OG Brock Hoffman and rookie OG Gennings Dunker, who the Steelers selected in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft out of Iowa. The presumed training camp battle between those three players should be fun to watch.
Should Anderson ultimately wind up not winning a starting job on the offensive line this summer, he still should obviously still make the 53-man roster as a backup. Anderson’s NFL experience at both guard spots, in addition to his ability to play both tackle positions in a pinch, certainly makes him a valuable player to the 2026 Steelers. His ability to also function as a quasi-tight end and fullback is also a big plus for him.
Anderson is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in 2027, so a solid season for him in 2026 could pay a lot of dividends for him contractually next offseason.
DT Kyler Baugh: A former undrafted free agent out of Minnesota, the Steelers originally signed Baugh in 2025 after training camp began. He logged just 24 preseason defensive snaps for the Steelers last summer on his way to totaling two total tackles, one sack, one tackle for loss, and one quarterback hit.
While Baugh did not make the 53-man roster out of training camp in 2025, he showed enough during the preseason to warrant the Steelers signing him to their practice squad to start the regular season. Baugh managed to remain a member of the Steelers’ practice squad for most of the 2025 season. He was off the team for only five days last December.
After officially ending the 2025 season on the Steelers’ practice squad, the team signed Baugh to a Reserve/Future contract in the middle of January.
Outlook: With the Steelers once again revamping their defensive line this past offseason, Baugh won’t have much of a shot at making the team’s 53-man roster out of training camp. In short, he will likely need a few injuries on the defensive line to make that happen.
The fact that Baugh was able to stick on the Steelers’ practice squad for most of the 2025 season is quite significant. That’s a tough task to accomplish for a former undrafted player who has yet to log any regular-season snaps since entering the NFL.
The biggest chore for Baugh entering the team’s 2026 training camp is for him to keep himself healthy and available for the remainder of the summer. Any minor injury sustained by Baugh once training camp gets underway could result in him losing his spot on the 91-man offseason roster.
It’s certainly not unthinkable that Baugh could wind up starting the 2026 regular season on the Steelers’ practice squad, which would be a repeat of 2025 for him. He’ll obviously need to earn that spot once again, and especially during the Steelers’ three preseason games.
