‘Incredible’ star who clashed with Amorim given golden Man Utd chance, but he’s about to waste it

Manchester United teenager Harry Amass is about to make a decision that could, for better or worse, alter the course of his playing career.

The left-back is a MUFC youth product who earned his senior debut under Ruben Amorim during the 2024/25 campaign.

After making seven appearances for the first team and showing ‘incredible upper strength’, the 19-year-old was sent out on loan last summer, but he could make his return to the fold next term.

Harry Amass hesitant about Man United chance

Amass initially joined Sheffield Wednesday, who were destined to finish at the bottom of the Championship table amid their major financial woes and squad downsizing.

The Owls expectedly had a miserable campaign, but the Man Utd academy product delivered impressive displays.

He was voted the club’s Player of the Month twice in a row, an honour that he bragged about in a controversial social media post when Amorim used him and Chido Obi as prime examples of struggling MUFC academy products, although the Portuguese manager was likely referring to Wednesday’s troubles rather than the player’s shortcomings.

In January, Amass was recalled by Man Utd, who decided to send him to Norwich City for the second half of the season. However, he suffered a season-ending injury after making a single appearance.

According to The Sun journalist Samuel Luckhurst, Man Utd are considering reinstating Amass in Michael Carrick’s squad for next season.

However, the youngster is reluctant to seize the opportunity, as the source claims he prefers to embark on another loan experience next season.

Why Amass must jump at Man Utd opportunity

Amid the lack of alternatives, Luke Shaw started in all 38 Premier League fixtures this season. However, replicating this feat is highly implausible with the return of Champions League football, not to mention the 30-year-old’s alarming injury record over the years.

United have also parted ways with Tyrell Malacia, who was already reduced to a forgotten figure this term, while Patrick Dorgu appears more comfortable and useful as an attacking winger. Moreover, most reliable sources agree that Man Utd prefer to buy a new left winger over a left-back.

Amass’s Senior Stats Appearances Goals Assists

Man Utd 7 0 0

Sheffield Wednesday 21 1 1

Norwich City 1 0 0

All in all, the circumstances are presenting Amass with what could be a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity to secure a prominent role in Man Utd’s first-team rotation.

If he chooses to bide his time with another loan experience, United might be forced to resort to the market, or instead hand the chance to another promising youngster, like Godwill Kukonki or Diego Leon, and if he manages to fill in the role admirably, Amass’s services won’t be required next year.

Hence, the young player must step up and prove he’s worthy of the opportunity, or he may live to regret it.

The left-back’s contract with United runs until June 2027, and it includes an option for another year.
