Confirmed: Barcelona secure the future of 16-year-old La Masia goalkeeping prodigy

While working to improve the first-team squad, FC Barcelona are also making sure to safeguard the future of the young talent coming through the ranks at La Masia with key renewals.

Many youth team prospects such as Max Bonfill, Artem Rybak, Hugo Garces, and Gorka Buil among several others have inked new deals with the Catalans in recent weeks.

Pablo Pena joins the queue

Now, highly-rated teenage goalkeeper Pablo Pena has signed a new contract with Barcelona, committing his immediate future to the club.

“The player Pablo Pena has signed, in the presence of the director and coordinator of Youth Football, Jose Ramon Alexanco and Andres Manzano, the continuity at the Club in his youth stage,” the club statement read.

“Thanks, Pena-Lopez family, for trusting La Masia for your son’s training as a player and a person.”

Having joined La Masia from the Levante Las Planas academy, Pena has shown great potential and is held in high regard within the club.

The goalkeeper, who turned 16 in March earlier this year, is currently a part of the club’s Cadete A (U16) team.

The teenage gem has also represented the Spanish national team at the U15 and the U16 levels on five occasions each.

Pena is considered one of the most talented goalkeeping prospects coming through La Masia and the renewal underlines the faith that Barcelona have in his potential.
