Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi has his sights on signing Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford during the summer transfer window, according to iNews.
The north London outfit have been busy during the off-season.
They recently purchased centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton & Hove Albion for £52 million and have had an opening bid worth £80m turned down for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali.
It is now revealed that Rashford is the next target on Spurs’ wishlist as they focus on proven Premier League stars. De Zerbi is said to be a big admirer and will push the hierarchy to secure a deal.
Spurs have no plans to match the £40m release clause and believe they can land the Englishman for a lower fee. Rashford is presently keen on a move abroad.
He prefers to return to Barcelona after a successful loan, but the La Liga outfit recently decided against triggering a £26m buy clause to sign him permanently.
Bayern are another option for Rashford, but the German champions have yet to approach.
Rashford has not ruled out staying at United, but could be forced to choose another club with the Red Devils keen to remove his astronomical salary (£315,000 per week) from their wage bill.
The 28-year-old is reportedly prepared to accept a huge pay cut at his next club.
Spurs could be a possible destination for Rashford
The England attacker had a fabulous 2025/26 season on loan at Barcelona. He scored 14 goals and provided 14 assists from 49 appearances across all competitions.
Rashford was fantastic from the left wing for the Blaugrana, but also made goal contributions when playing upfront or on the right wing. His versatility is one of his big strengths.
De Zerbi should know Rashford’s qualities well from his time managing Brighton, and he appears determined to bring him to north London ahead of next season.
Rashford, described as ‘world-class‘ by Barcelona, could be guaranteed playing time on the left wing if he were to join Spurs. De Zerbi plays an attacking brand of football, which should bring out the best in him.
Ultimately, the choice depends on the player himself. Rashford is eager to rejoin Barcelona, but the Catalan giants seem to be eyeing another season-long loan deal.
United have no desire to entertain such a proposal. Rashford would be a good competitor with Matheus Cunha on the left wing at the club, but the hierarchy clearly have plans to sell.
Rashford would provide pure profit on the Red Devils’ financial books, similar to Alejandro Garnacho last term, thereby boosting the club’s spending spree in the current transfer window.
Hence, it won’t come as a surprise if Rashford ends up joining Tottenham.
