Alan Shearer Questions Sandro Tonali’s Interest In Joining Premier League Rival

**Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer is surprised that Sandro Tonali is keen on a move to Tottenham.**

Spurs have finished 17th in the league table for two consecutive years, and Shearer says he can’t see why the Italian would be interested in joining them:

“Tottenham just avoided relegation. I get the attraction of London, but going to Spurs, who have finished so low over the last two years, would be a surprise career move for Tonali in my eyes.”

“But I’m not surprised if it’s true that he’s made an indication that he wants to leave Newcastle. Again, if he doesn’t want to be there, you put the price you want and if someone wants to pay it. It looks as if it’ll have to be three figures, then you say thank you very much, get the £100 million plus, and you move on.”

“I know Spurs have a new manager and that may be a pull for him, London, obviously. But in terms of the football club, look where they have finished the last two years.”

The De Zerbi factor may have influenced Tonali

----------------------------------------------

It is believed that Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi has played a big role in persuading the 26-year-old to make the move to the North London club.

De Zerbi was born in Brescia, where Tonali started his career, so that personal connection has clearly played a role in the midfielder’s interest in moving to Spurs.

Newcastle will be hoping for a bidding war

------------------------------------------

The Magpies have rejected one bid from Tottenham already, but there is still believed to be interest from other clubs, including [**Manchester City**](https://newcastleunitednews.org/blog/newcastle-united-transfer-news-sandro-tonali-5/) and Arsenal.

If either team does decide to make an offer, it should increase the chances of Tonali being sold close to the £100m figure that Shearer mentions.
