Chelsea reach £45m Lucas Bergvall transfer verdict after scouting Tottenham star

Chelsea have been linked with a potential move for Lucas Bergvall this summer, after the Tottenham midfielder requested a transfer away.

It has been a whirlwind few days for Lucas Bergvall. The Spurs midfielder became the youngest-ever Sweden player at the World Cup when he came on in the 64th minute to contribute an assist as Graham Potter’s side thrashed Tunisia 5-1.

The Swedish media raved about Bergvall after his cameo against the North African side, being particularly impressed with the confidence that the youngster showed on the ball.

On Sunday evening, it was then revealed that Bergvall has asked Tottenham for a transfer away this summer in search of regular game time. Spurs want around £45m to sell their Swedish starlet.

Chelsea were scouting Lucas Bergvall at the World Cup

Lucas Bergvall struggled to get into the XI at Tottenham after Roberto De Zerbi arrived through the door, starting just one fixture out of seven.

Journalist Simon Phillips revealed on his Substack that the Sweden international was being closely monitored by Chelsea this summer.

Phillips says the Blues will be ‘scouting the 20-year-old heavily’ at the World Cup as the youngster gets his first taste of a major international tournament.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Chelsea sensed that the midfielder could be open to leaving Spurs and believed that Tottenham were likely to make some sales this summer as they work to rebuild their squad after successive 17th-placed finishes. It seems they were right on both fronts.

In the latest twist, Standard Sport report that Chelsea will not go back in for Bergvall this summer after deciding against a transfer.

Tottenham will not be short of suitors though. Nottingham Forest, Bayern Munich, and Aston Villa are among those keeping an eye on Bergvall this summer.

Forest seem to be the most determined, as the Premier League club see Bergvall as a potential replacement for Elliot Anderson if he moves to Man City.
