The Brandon Aiyuk saga continues to get weirder.
The wide receiver, who remains under contract with the San Francisco 49ers, spent time in a recent social media video sharing the refrain, "Go Commanders." As in the Washington Commanders.
And sure, everyone is acknowledging that the 49ers and Aiyuk won't be together for much longer.
And yep, there's been a lot of suggestion that the Commanders are his most logical landing spot, whether via trade or after a cut and a signing.
There might be a case for the Commanders thinking about this a little bit longer, though.
Is Aiyuk really a good fit for Washington?
From a depth chart standpoint, Aiyuk would be counted on in a big way. He'd likely slot in as the WR2 behind Terry McLaurin.
At least based on the player Aiyuk was in 2024 and earlier, he'd fill that in a solid way.
But a couple things have happened since then. For one, Aiyuk was out with injury for about a year. And then when he was healthy, he basically didn't show up for the 49ers.

There's no way to know exactly when he was healed up, but it's clear he pretty much quit on his team after a bizarre feud in 2025.
And now, Aiyuk is spending time on social media talking not-very-cryptic trash about the 49ers and even proclaiming praise of other teams.
Wide receivers are often considered to be divas, but this? This is a different level.
This is the kind of personality that can ruin a good thing.
The Commanders were great in 2024, Jayden Daniels' rookie season, and then struggled because of injuries in 2025.
This is still Daniels' team, and he can still be special. He'd likely make the most out of Aiyuk, but there's definitely a path where Aiyuk ruins things with an otherwise quality bunch of players.
In a perfect world, Aiyuk would make the Commanders better. But does he make them a true Super Bowl contender? Only then would he maybe be worth it.
And after not seeing him on the field for a while, and seeing all his off-the-field antics, Aiyuk may simply not be a player that the Commanders actually should get involved with.
