Back off: European giants told'ruthless'Man United star is not for sale

Barcelona have identified Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko as a target to replace Robert Lewandowski.

Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez is their primary target, but they are finding it difficult to negotiate a deal, owing to his €500 million release clause.

Sesko and Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy have now emerged as alternative options to the Argentina international.

However, Manchester Evening News report that United are not prepared to listen to offers for the Slovenian striker, making a Barcelona move highly unlikely.

Desribed as ‘ruthless‘ by manager Michael Carrick, Sesko joined United last summer from RB Leipzig to strengthen their attacking options.

He endured a slow start, but rediscovered his best form in the second half of last season. He finished the campaign with 11 league goals and one assist, helping United secure Champions League qualification.

He is expected to play a more prominent role for the Red Devils next season as they look to build on last term’s success.

Rather than weakening their attack by selling Sesko, United are keen to reinforce that area of the squad.

The Mancunian giants are aiming to sign a new left-winger. They admire Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers, but he prefers a move to Arsenal.

A move for West Ham United’s Crysencio Summerville is more likely at this stage, but they have to beat Arsenal, Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain to his signature.

Man United are also likely to sign another striker if Joshua leaves. They could consider a move for Brentford centre-forward Igor Thiago.
