Tom Brady might not have been the most gifted athlete the NFL has ever seen, indeed by his own admission – he isn’t.
But the legendary New England Patriots quarterback excelled at being prepared, at being one-step ahead of the competition in a career that lasted 21 seasons and brought seven Super Bowls.
That makes him well-placed to recognise and praise it when he sees it in others and having admitted his Birmingham City team, where he is a minority shareholder, struggled to get into a groove in their first season back in the Championship – he lauded Coventry City for running away with the title.
“Our first season was terrible,” Brady said when in conversation with Gary Neville, Roy Keane and Ian Wright on The Overlap.

“We had four different manager changes. We hired a really good manager in Chris Davies in our second season when we were in League One - awesome season - and then the Championship is tough.
“We got to the Championship this year and had a lot of change in players. I think the quality of the player has been better, we just could never quite get on a run with the right momentum.
“It's a tough league and those environments are tough.
“What Coventry did this year was amazing. They obviously had great planning and scored so many goals.”
Indeed but for a wobble in December and January the Sky Blues romped home with just one loss from the final 15 games and an impressive 97 league goals.
By contrast Birmingham finished tenth 40 goals and 31 points behind Frank Lampard’s men.
