Manchester United are in the picture to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Waldemar Anton this summer.
On March 31st, Sport Witness covered claims from Germany that the Red Devils and Aston Villa have made contact. The Premier League duo should be able to match or beat his current annual salary of €5-6m.
A day later, another major German source pushed Manchester United as an option for the centre-back.
The Germany international is now at the World Cup and came off the bench in their 7-1 win over Curaçao.
Manchester United interest further backed up
Ruhr Nachrichten, a newspaper local to the German club, are highly reliable for Borussia Dortmund news.
They have a detailed report on Waldemar Anton’s development this season and also cover Manchester United.
The 29-year-old has played 3,927 minutes from 44 matches and the experienced player has been reliable, robust and a leader in BVB’s defence.
Dortmund manager Niko Kovač is a big fan of the player and appreciates his qualities both on and off the pitch. This would have caught the Premier League side’s attention.
Ruhr Nachrichten makes it clear it’s their own information that Manchester United are keen on Anton. Michael Carrick highly values the German and could ‘easily envisage him’ at Old Trafford.
Despite the Red Devils showing interest in the experience leader, the Bundesliga side are relatively calm.
This is mainly because Anton isn’t a player ‘constantly seeking the next career step nor someone who is driven by speculation’.
Kovač and Borussia Dortmund also have no intention of letting him leave this summer. In fact, their plan is to extend his contract beyond 2028.
