The Athletic has revealed that up to 11 players could end up leaving Liverpool this summer, be it on permanent deals or loan transfers.
With a new manager still yet to take the reins of a training session, the full picture of Andoni Iraola’s squad for 2026-27 is only just beginning to come into focus.
The Basque coach was appointed on June 4th, just six days after Arne Slot’s dismissal, signing a two-year deal at Anfield.
His assessment of the squad will largely happen during pre-season.
With eight first-team regulars away at the World Cup in North America, Iraola will begin his US tour again with a very young group.
He has been candid about viewing this as an opportunity rather than a setback, stating he is eager to get closer looks at academy players and loan returnees who never got minutes under Slot.
“For me, they are all new signings,” he said of the wider squad.
The Athletic has reported in their Transfer DealSheet that in addition to two senior players in Curtis Jones and Federico Chiesa among those who could leave, a host of youngsters could be loaned out:
“Trey Nyoni is attracting plenty of interest from teams in the Championship and across Europe and is likely to go out on loan, but no final decision will be taken until later in the summer with the 18-year-old midfielder set to be given the chance to impress new head coach Andoni Iraola in pre-season.”
“Luke Chambers, Kieran Morrison, Amara Nallo, James McConnell and Armin Pecsi are all expected to be loaned out.”
It’s added that Luca Stephenson, who is attracting interest from Bolton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers, as well as Kaide Gordon, will leave on permanent deals:
“Luca Stephenson will leave on a permanent basis, and Kaide Gordon could follow suit.”
“Centre-back Ifeanyi Ndukwe, 18, who officially joins Liverpool next month after a £2.5million deal was struck with Austria Vienna in January, is likely to spend next season out on loan.”
Arne Slot operated a famously tight rotation and did not trust the likes of Wataru Endo and Federico Chiesa very much.
Frimpong in particular, not part of the Netherlands’ World Cup squad, will be one of the first senior players through the door at the AXA Training Centre for pre-season.
