Man United board encouraged to get summer deal done for£40M attacker

Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha believes the club must sell Marcus Rashford this summer, insisting a permanent separation would benefit both player and club amid ongoing uncertainty over the England forward’s future.

Rashford’s future remains one of the major talking points of Manchester United’s transfer window after the 28-year-old returned from a productive loan spell at Barcelona.

The Spanish champions opted not to activate a purchase option before its deadline, leaving the forward’s long-term destination unresolved. Recent reports indicate United are actively exploring a permanent sale rather than another temporary move.

Speaking about Rashford’s situation, Saha argued that a fresh start is the best outcome for all parties. The former Manchester United forward said that despite remaining a fan of Rashford’s talent, too much has happened during the player’s turbulent final period at Old Trafford for a successful reunion to be likely.

Saha suggested that “sometimes you need to move on” and questioned whether a return would truly help the club.

Rashford impressed during his spell in Catalonia, contributing 14 goals across all competitions as Barcelona secured the La Liga title. However, Barcelona’s decision not to complete a permanent deal has reopened the market for the England international

He said: “I think Man Utd should be done with Marcus Rashford. His head is not there to come back because it would be a kind of failure.

“He’s done enough at Barcelona, for sure, but not enough to actually be ahead of Gordon in a way that only Deco can answer.

“They haven’t visualised him as the priority because there is an element of his game where they couldn’t see him filling the gap. I’m unsure of what. I really do rate Rashford’s season.

“He was linked to Barcelona, but Deco has seen it differently. Maybe Gordon is younger and can play that number nine role, but I don’t think going back to United is going to be helpful for anyone. Even with his huge talent, there will be difficult conversations when he isn’t playing well.

“There are moments in his game where he doesn’t know if he has to defend or not, and those factors play against him. It’s like going back to your ex, I don’t think that works really well.”

Although Carrick previously suggested the door was not completely closed on Rashford’s return, recent transfer developments have increased expectations that the academy graduate will depart permanently before the start of the new season.

For Saha, the solution is straightforward: cash in now and allow both Manchester United and Rashford to move forward.
