Tottenham phone calls ‘have already been made’ for attacker – Player could ‘pack his bags’

Cody Gakpo has impressed at the World Cup and Tottenham‘s move for the attacker is gathering pace.

The Liverpool man has already scored twice in the tournament, helping the Netherlands to go unbeaten in two games.

This comes directly after the winger had faced a lot of criticism during the 2025/26 campaign. He came under the spotlight for his bad decision making in the final third and inconsistency had also creeped into his approach.

It now seems like Gakpo’s time at Liverpool is up and Tottenham are making progress.

Player about to pack his bags

TuttoSport report that Tottenham have as many as eight signings lined-up for Roberto De Zerbi. This is their way of backing the Italian and Gakpo is expected to be a key arrival.

The former Brighton manager is keen on the Dutchman, despite him having a difficult campaign. De Zerbi feels Gakpo is perfect for his system and Spurs’ phone calls have ‘already been made for him’.

Formal negotiations between Tottenham and Liverpool are yet to take place. So far, the London club have explored the conditions of a possible deal.

It is believed the Dutchman can soon ‘pack his bags’ ahead of an exit. The Reds are not expected to give any discounts, especially as Richard Hughes wants to take advantage of Gakpo’s good World Cup campaign.

Spurs should be prepared for competition

If the Dutch keep doing well at the World Cup, Gakpo’s reputation will be sky-high. He looks like the centre of their attack, with the likes of Brian Brobbey and Crysencio Summerville playing around him.

That is why Tottenham should be aware that competition for the 27-year-old could rise.

He is at the right age and can play in different positions in attack. Tottenham will part ways with Randal Kolo Muani soon and Gakpo would be a more than able replacement.
