Jimmy Haslam trade decisions risk leaving horrific legacy for Browns, Bucks

Jimmy Haslam owns the NFL's Cleveland Browns and the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks.

Those two teams have been on the superstar-subtracting side of the biggest blockbuster trades of their leagues' respective offseasons. The Browns traded Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams. The Bucks traded Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat.

Haslam is an owner, not a GM. He wasn't in the negotiating room.

But when deals like this go down, the owner is certainly kept in the loop. They're franchise-defining moments.

MORE:Why the Bucks traded Giannis to the Heat

And at this point, Haslam's legacy may end up being tied to some of the biggest trades in these respective sports.

The story doesn't start here, either. Haslam was a big proponent of the Browns' trade to bring aboard Deshaun Watson (which also meant moving on from Baker Mayfield).

That turned out to be an epic failure, and while it's not like the Browns had been a powerhouse before then, it was the kind of trade and ensuing contract move that kept Cleveland down in the dumps and didn't really allow for an easy way out.

The Garrett trade may have been a smart one given where the Browns are on their timeline. They got a good draft pick haul and a much younger but still talented pass rusher in Jared Verse.

The Giannis trade, too, seemed like the Bucks didn't have a whole lot of choice. Time will tell if they got enough in return, but the package from the Heat certainly had a lot of assets coming back to Milwaukee.

But the thing about a guy like Antetokounmpo is that they don't make others like him. Maybe you can mostly replace him with skilled pieces all over the floor, but there's no actual replacing of Giannis that can be done.

Haslam has traded away superstars twice in short order. These weren't his ideas, but he also didn't stop the moves. His legacy has the potential to be a painful one.
