Reports in France are suggesting that Liverpool may have beaten Paris Saint-Germain to the signing of Yan Diomande.

The Ivory Coast winger is the Reds’ primary target this summer, with the club stepping up its pursuit after completing a deal for Victor Munoz last week.

Diomande’s stock continues to rise as he impresses at the World Cup, and Liverpool has taken its chance to make a move, having informed RB Leipzig that it would be willing to do a deal for around $115 million (€100M). That initial proposal has been rejected though, with the Reds now weighing up whether to return with an improved bid.

PSG is also interested in the 19-year-old, with recent reports suggesting that a first bid from the European champions could be on the way.

French outlet MediaFoot though is now claiming that PSG has “thrown in the towel,” clearing the way for Liverpool. The club’s soccer adviser, Luis Campos, is said to have consulted with both Leipzig and Diomande, but has turned down the chance to sign him.

Leipzig’s asking price is claimed to exceed PSG’s budget, with the Ligue 1 champions refusing to get involved in a bidding war.

What’s more, it’s claimed that Liverpool has reached an agreement with Diomande’s representatives, and all that remains is to agree on a fee with Leipzig.

According to The Athletic, Leipzig would consider a higher bid in excess of $148 million (€130M). The German club is keen to get Diomande to sign a new deal at the club, which would end speculation over his future for now.

The teenager has yet to make a final decision on his future, although he did seem to leave the door open to a move to England, which could encourage Liverpool.

"Would I be open to the Premier League? I don't know," Diomande said last week. "I am an RB Leipzig player, but why not? My agents will sort that out.

"As for me I am more focused on the World Cup, that's the most important thing. It doesn't happen all the time, it's only every four years, so I am making the most of it and for the rest, we'll see."

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.

While the latest claims from France suggest that a deal with Diomande may be getting closer, Liverpool is still preparing for the eventuality that it fails to reach an agreement with Leipzig.

Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh, Cologne’s Said El Mala and Lille’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo are all being looked at as alternative options, while there has also been some interest in West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville, although nothing has progressed on that front.

Bradley Barcola is another player who is admired by Liverpool, although if PSG is indeed giving up on Diomande, that would make the French international’s departure far less likely.
