Liverpool’s pursuit of Yan Diomande has taken another twist, with fresh developments seemingly pushing the Reds into pole position for the RB Leipzig star.
We recently reported that Liverpool is expected to return with an improved offer in the region of €115m after seeing an opening bid knocked back.
French reports on Tuesday went a step further by suggesting Liverpool have now reached an agreement in principle with Diomande’s camp over personal terms.
It has been claimed that the framework of the personal agreement is in place, with only a transfer fee still to be thrashed out with RB Leipzig.
Securing the player’s green light at this stage is crucial. The club are not in the habit of throwing nine‑figure bids around without strong encouragement from the player’s side, and this development is a major box ticked in what was always going to be a complex deal.
The knock‑on effect is being felt in Paris.
According to a report from Media Foot, PSG have now effectively withdrawn from the race, with the French giants “throwing in the towel” in their attempts to sign Diomande.
The Ligue 1 champions had been seen as Liverpool’s main rivals for his signature.
But Liverpool’s willingness to push towards Leipzig’s valuation has persuaded PSG to step back.
Media Foot suggest that the financial package required, together with Liverpool’s head start in talks with the player’s entourage, has made the deal increasingly unattractive from a Parisian perspective:
“For its part, PSG is throwing in the towel. Luis Campos has spoken with all the parties and has not followed up because the price demanded by Leipzig exceeds the framework of what Paris wants to spend. The Diomande phenomenon saw his price explode and PSG forbade itself from participating in the bidding war,” it’s reported.
Liverpool’s focus now turns fully to RB Leipzig and finding a compromise over the fee. If the Reds can edge closer to the German side’s demands, Diomande’s long‑mooted move to Anfield may be edging closer to reality.
